First Time Shooting? Here’s What You Need to Know Before Your First Shooting Sport Experience

If you’ve never held a gun before and don’t know how to navigate this, let us set your mind at ease. We understand how nervous one can be. This is your first shooting sports experience after all! There are so many things one has to keep in mind and on top of that, there is a gun in your hand! But don’t worry, first times are usually the scariest. Once you’ve participated in the thrill of a shooting sport experience, you will definitely find yourself back at the range.

In this blog, we will help prepare you with what you need to know before your first shooting sport experience. So without any delay, let’s get to it:

1)    Look out for supplies

It is very important to know exactly what’s in store. Check with the shooting range if they provide shooting equipment such as guns, gun cleaning supplies, protective gear, safety equipment, and targets. If not check with the range where they can be bought, we are sure they will offer a helping hand.

2)    Wear the correct gear

Unlike other sports, just quick dry may not be the best option. Wearing eye-protective gear is a must at all shooting ranges. Not just while shooting, it helps protect your eyes even while cleaning your equipment afterwards.

Ear protection gear is another non-negotiable. The strain caused by shooting on the ears can cause irreversible damage. Wearing appropriate ear protection gear can reduce the impact.

Lastly, proper clothing. It is very important to wear comfortable pants, many prefer cargo pants and short or long sleeve shirts with a high neck or a collar. Comfortable, sturdy shoes are always recommended.

3)    Know the safety rules

As a first-time shooter, shooting can be an intense experience. Learn the gun safety rules beforehand. This will boost your confidence. It is also advised to learn the range safety rules to ensure overall safety for you as well as anyone shooting at the range.

4)    Ask questions

This is your first time at a shooting range, so of course, you will have questions! Don’t hold back, ask as many questions as you have. No question is big or small. Ask for assistance wherever required. We all have to start somewhere right?

5)    Be patient

Last but not the least, be patient with yourself. Everyone knows, first times are always stressful, awkward, and honestly not the best. It always gets better with each try. So don’t forget to have fun on the way and enjoy yourself.

Other than the above mentioned, don’t forget to properly load your gun to avoid any accedental firings. Always carry it around unloaded, keep your finger off the trigger unless you’re ready to shoot. This is a fun activity, so go along with a partner who can be supportive through the experience!
